Alright, so I finally decided to give homebrew a try. I'm not sure if it's just me or does everyone else have a hard time deciding on what equipment to purchase? I must of spent at least a month looking around at starter kits and research on what to buy. I thought I had a budget in my head for around $300 to start up. At the end of the day I spent close to $600 on my equipment which is not what I was planning on. You can start home brewing for very cheap but for some reason I had tunnel vision into buying the equipment, rational and budget went out the window.
Let's go back to the beginning, I was trying to figure out if I wanted to do the whole secondary transfer and do I want to go plastic, carboy or mixture of both. If you look at plastic vs glass they both have pro's and con's. I like the fact that glass is more pure and it doesn't leach like plastic. Other hand glass is heavy compare to plastic and you have to be careful not to drop it and shatter. Cleaning on a 5 gallon carboy seems like a beep!
I didn't go with either, once I started to do more research I started to look at Conical fermenters which I thought is a great idea since you don't have to do the secondary transfer. I'm not a big fan of plastic and leaving your beer in something that's going to leach. I know everything we drink or eat now a days have some sort of chemical in it. My own excuse to buy what I want I guess!
At the end of the day, I went with the SS Brew tech Conical Fermenter. I liked the design but wish they had a way to drop the trub out of the conical like the fast fermenter.

Update:
If I could of done this again, I think I would of gone with the SS Brew Tech Chronical 7 Gallon Fermenter or the catalyst fermenter for $199.
Check it out, seems like a cool idea for the starter.
